Everyone has an ideal world in which they’d want to live in. Of course no one wants to live in a place in which there is violence, cruelty, bad energy etc. But, for some, in order to achieve their ideal perfection of a utopia; they must do anything in their power to get close to what they have envisioned there ideal place would be like. Sure, some may say there is no such thing as perfection, others think otherwise. With variety of opinions whether a utopia can exist there many conflicts too many opinions and believes. Filmed by the director Guillermo Del Toro â€Å"Pan’s Labyrinth, section of Walden by Henry Thoreau and Genesis three, shows how dystopia is introduced as the story goes along. Because so many want to achieve utopia, many believe that the idea of having a perfect society does not exist and eventually will turn into chaos. In the movie Pan’s Labyrinth, the idea of a perfect utopia was displayed by one, going back to the years after the Spanish Civil War, in which â€Å"La guerilla† (the rebels) tries to fight the military of Spain. The purpose for the rebels to fight off the Regime was to oppose to the new government that wanted to control and create a New Spain. These rebels were not happy since they had different believes that the new government was strongly to oppose which was equality. Because both were displeased a war broke out and Spain was in war with itself. Both sides thought society could be run better if things either changed or stood the same. Having a war was a step of creating a utopia, but created a dystopia at the same time, for the simple fact that it created so much chaos and violence. There were many death, even, injured men who fought for their believes. Two, El Capitan Vidal who controls Spain’s military believes that fighting, things will go your way, he believes that they will give up due to the fact the rebels do not have enough food, armor nor enough men to win the battle. Ofelia being a young child with such a big imagination notices the domination that her new â€Å"stepdad† has towards her mom and she cannot do anything but obey. As the movie progresses, you could imagine how Ofelia dos not feel the love from her mother due to a delicate pregnancy and her stepdad that cannot stand her at all. There is no utopia here but a dystopia in Ofelia’s world and it is understandable in her eyes to realize that she lives in tough times but need the care and love from both adults. Every child desires to love and to be loved back, you don’t want to feel as if people don’t care nor bother to appreciate you for the smallest things, but for Ofelia is different. Because of the lack of care she receives in the real world, she relies on her fairytale stories not to just comfort her but to let he explore the magical place in which she wants to go and call home. Since the Captain is more eager and cares more about changing Spain he forgets his family and puts them to the side. As the movie almost gets to the end, the Captain seemed to start losing control of what he had once had control of. Though he showed strength and devotion towards his country many of â€Å"his† people were spy’s for the rebel and worked for him. At the end of the movie, El Capitan Vidal is surrounded by the rebellions after killing Ofelia inside the labyrinth and he now realizes his troops and himself were defenseless and rounded up. After trying to make all these changes to Spain and putting so much effort in trying to defeat the rebellions, his idea of perfection collapses in a matter of minutes To create a utopia you must obey and never question nor answer back. Adam and Eve were just humans who thought everything was roses and ponies, their world was perfect; no harm, they ruled the earth. God to them was someone to look up too so they did what he told them to do. However, everything changed when one of the animals God created deceived Eve to eat an apple from the Garden of Eve. At the end she ate this apple and convinced Adam to eat; all of a sudden both gain so much knowledge and realize there both nude. They knew they disobeyed God, they knew that something was going to happen and it actually did. God punished both Adam and Eve severely and it’s obvious that God reprimanded both for not obeying, God obviously started setting rules and he didn’t like the simple fact they didn’t go by one rule he expected them to follow. A place where everything was supposed to be unlimited to both became a nightmare when both went against God’s will. Nothing turned out to be perfect. Deciding to live in the woods and leave everything back is very hard to do, but it can be done. In the section of Walden, Thoreau decides to live in the woods because he has realized that he has not lived his life. Most people would think that he is insane for wanting to live in the woods and leave everything behind him just to explore Mother Nature. People would love to live in rural areas, but Thoreau decides that he will want to live here because it is a choice he made. In Salome, the cold, matter-of-fact tone is memorable and confusing; there is a decapitated head lying next to her, yet she displays no emotions except possible excitement as her eyes glitter. As a poor sailor, Eden looked around and saw the ideals of the bourgeois. Through the eyes of Eden the Bourgeois were the educated, wealthy, and were what Martin desired to become. He dreams of becoming educated and belonging to the upper class; ultimately he finds one small connection that opens up a new world to the once struggling seaman. His life lies in ruins in front of him and he starts realizing that according to his ideology he is a failure. Materialistic things are everything that count for him is how it seems. Therefore he cannot see what he has in his wife and two sons, who stand behind him by the end of the play. The idea that his life insurance money could help his son to set up his business prevails for him. He had always wanted his sons, especially Biff, the elder one of them, to be successes. At the age of thirty-four, though, Biff has still not settled down, as he wants to be a success in the eyes of his father but on the other hand realizes that he is best at working with his hands. This of course would mean not making much money but would probably give him a feeling of self-fulfillment. By the end of the play Biff realizes exactly this but is not able to make Willy drop his views. These views prevent Willy from doing what he also shows talent in, which is construction working. Only materialistic things are what count in a man's life. As Willy slowly seems to comprehend how much he failed, according to his narrowed views, a process begins in him, which many of the other characters would describe as confusion. It is much more than that, though, he looses his touch with reality and gives up his will to live. On his long journeys in his car he deliberately tries to crash and at home he connects a plastic attachment to the gas pipe in his cellar in order to suffocate himself. This not only shows that he has given up but also that his family is not enough reason for him to continue his life. This cannot be explained simply by saying he does not love them but it is that he thinks he is unworthy of living with them when he cannot provide them with money. Therefore his line of thinking continues with the idea that in his death he can give them a lot more financial support than he could in his life time. Following his logic this is to say that he is a much better husband and father, dead than alive. In the play there is a rather optimistic part, where the future of the Loman family seems rather good. Willy is about to see his boss for a non-traveling position and his sons have the plan to open a sports article retailing business. All of these hopes for a better future get crushed at once and the way to Willy's suicide is free. In a last vision of Ben, Willy sees a new hope at least for his sons in his life insurance money and therefore his death. Ben encourages him in this unspoken intention Willy takes the last step and drives into the next tree. Willy has a conversation with his brother Ben, who has been dead for some time, and concludes the best future for his family, especially Biff whom Willy is desperate to become successful, would be for him to kill himself as the insurance company would pay out $20, 000, enough to make Biff successful in Willy’s mind, â€Å"you end up worth more dead than alive. The irony of Willy killing himself is that he is killing himself to give Biff money in order for him to become a successful business man however the insurance company will not make a payout for suicide and Biff has no intention of following in his father’s footsteps. This evokes sympathy for Willy as he is trying to do the best for his family however he still cannot provide for them even through his death. During the play â€Å"Death of a Salesman† the title is significant as there is a physical death of a salesman in the respect that Willy dies and he is a salesman. Through killing himself Willy hopes to provide the financial support, which he has been failing to gain for many years, for his family that is required. The death of Willy is not honourable as he desires and is sorry ending to his unsuccessful life in business. In conclusion the title of the play is significant as it in further understanding of the events, which occur in the play. Miller uses the title to convey both a physical and metaphorical death and in order for the reader to understand the ending to their full capability.

Almost any idea deviating from the status quo, largely determined by the Roman Catholic Church, was condemned as heresy. One convicted of such a grievous offense was often excommunicated or killed, either by means of a proper execution or by a hostile mob. However, with the decline of the Middle Ages, the conditions arose for the birth of individualismthe development of which can be traced through the Renaissance, the Reformation, and the rise of capitalism. Individualism was a radical ideological revolution that forever altered the face of Europe and the rest of the world. The beginning of individualisms gradual evolution was first manifested in the Renaissance Era. The Renaissance was a ripe time ready for change. The weakening role of the Catholic Church led to an increase in power for the masses. Corruption plagued Church officials and many sought theological respite elsewhere. The reemphasis of ancient Greek and Roman texts proffered alternatives for many to satisfy their religious needs. This helped contribute to the abolishment of the Churchs imposition of its absolute truth and its claim to ultimate authority. As the church lost power, so did the political units. The bonds between church and state began to erode. Feudalism declined, Babbitt 2 hence giving rise to new political opportunity. The noble class no longer held a monopoly on the valued positions in society. Rather, one was able to pursue wealth and fame through various endeavors ranging from artist to soldier. The most empowering change of this era was the dominance of a secular attitude and the decline of church absolutism. This secular viewpoint altered mans reason for existence from an otherworldly quest to an intimate, immediate appreciation for that which exists on earth. Humanism is a primary source of individualism. Pico della Mirandolas Oration on the Dignity of Man captures the essence of the humanist movement. He writes that God gave man the ability to make of himself what he wills. Although man is capable of depraved acts, he also possesses the profundity to distinguish him as a holy being. Pico praises the goodness of mankind when he writes, man is rightly called and judged a great miracle and a wonderful creature indeed. This Renaissance perspective varies from the idea it replaced that held man as an intrinsically evil being. Picos oration, representative of the Renaissance itself, placed a higher importance on mankind, hence endowing members of society with a sense of pride rather than shame in their humanity. No longer did the church determine piety and greatness, but it was the common man who was now able to make this measurement. This represents a drastic step towards individualism. The Reformation was an epoch that increased the right and power of the individual. As a reaction against rampant church corruption, Martin Luther publicized complaints against the church. Luthers criticism sparked a revolution that resulted in the Babbitt 3 formation of several new religionsLutheranism, Calvanism, Anabaptism, and Protestantism. These new faiths undermined the church as having an absolute truth because each religion claimed to have an absolute truth of their own, separate from their counterparts. One now had the option to freely choose his or her faith rather than accept beliefs that were forced upon him. Also, theology adapted from one dictatorial faith to a variety that better suited society and its members. The people rather an establishment deemed what theological ideas were to be embraced and rejected. Lutheranism differs from Catholicism in the understanding and interpretation of three major areas: determination of salvation, source of truth, and basis of the church. The Catholic Church believed that salvation was achieved through Gods grace. In other words, humans were at the mercy of God whether they were to be saved or not. Luther professed that faith was the necessary element for salvation. He wrote, Faith redeems, corrects, and preserves our consciences so that we know that righteousness does not consist in works our righteousness is not in them, but in faith. Humans, therefore, had the power of self-determination in relation to their salvation. Through faith, one could achieve salvation. EuroPC has the buying power to purchase refurbished computers at a good price, saving the manufacturers the loss of goods that otherwise would be destroyed; the refurbished computers are then graded from brand new to computers refurbished by the manufacturer through to older computers that have had their hard drive changed and a new operating system installed, then priced and pass the savings onto their consumers. EuroPC is graded as a green company that prides itself in the proper disposal of used computer components and WEEE certification. They have outlets both on Amazon and EBay. EuroPC also offer commission sales for self employed sales persons. 3.2.Value Adding Activities EuroPC creates value through a value Chain model configuration and can be analysed using Porter’s value Chain model (Porter). Appendix C, (Value chain Analysis). This value configuration can be utilised when analysing the value adding performance and where their value is in the brand. The value of companies in the value chain model is to offer a service that is required to the consumer to a value that is greater than the cost of the activities, therefore producing a profit margin. (Porter) The value chain model is a useful analysis tool for defining a firms core competencies and the activities. EuroPC profit margins depends on how well they perform in (Porter) Porter’s chain activities and also there drivers, Appendix C Porter states, Value chain activities are not isolated from one another. One value chain activity often affects the cost or performance of other ones. Linkages may exist between primary activities and also between primary and support activities. Interrelationships among business units form the basis for a horizontal strategy. Such business unit interrelationships can be identified by a value chain analysis. 3.2.1. Customer Promotions (Bremmer et al, 2007)EuroPC have regular promotions such as win a laptop, this gathers peoples e-mail address so that viral marketing can be applied and so build up a relationship with potential new clients using traditional media. This promotion will drive the value chain model by increasing their selling power. EuroPC use Content hyper-syndication and have an active facebook wall where users are encouraged to leave messages, Twitter for users to receive tweets, and also RSS to have feeds of promotion direct to users browser. EuroPC also have outlets at Amazon.co.uk and are also a sponsored link at EBay with their own store also on EBay, There are many stores on line that give away promotional codes for discount for purchase of refurbished computers. At a computers end of life and providing users are buying an upgrade, EuroPC will purchase users old computer, 1 per individual and 25 per business, and dispose of it safely with certification employing Government approved data wiping ISO 27001 (ICO   2010). This could be something big business would look for when upgrading computers as average costs per unit for data wipe is approximately  £15.00. EuroPC have a free telephone number for enquiries and for information about breakdowns, warranty and returns or technical support use a local area landline. EuroPC also use (Google 2011) Google checkout to drive customers to their web site. 3.2.2. Service Provisioning Service provisioning activities is the support to the customer from the supplier. EuroPC have a proactive customer support that start with a web page of FAQs (Frequently asked questions), if your answer is not found there is a technical support helpline, this will help bolster relations between EuroPC and their customers. Infrastructure EuroPC act as re-intermediary for large computer manufacturers who under the Distance Selling Regulations (OFT 2005) allow customers 7 days to return goods,   this then leaves the manufacturer with stock that cannot be sold as new. As long as this law stays enforced, a steady stream of goods will always be returned. Manufacturing companies having a duty under WEEE regulations will always look for the cheapest option and that is to sell them to refurbished distributers and reduce their loss. Website Evaluations The interaction between the user and the web site can be significant and influential for the success of a website. To further analyse the EuroPC graphical user interface it can be assessed with Computer Clearances utilising the framework described by Constantinides. (Constantinides, 2004) Appendix D 4.1. Functional Factors Functional factors involve how well the web site functions and it ease of use. The main categories of the functional factor are the interoperability and the Usability. 4.1.1. Usability The usability is stable on all browsers with little differences, EuroPC it is a little slow to load; Computer Clearances is not much faster to load. EuroPC navigation is clear and easy to read with one exception when choosing a category the navigation expands over both text and images already on the screen, Computer Clearances navigation text is too small for accessibility apart from that it is easy to follow. 4.1.2. Aesthetics EuroPC website gives the appearance of a professional designed website with lots of ways in which the user can interact and find the product the user is looking for also reminds the user what they have visited; the website uses colours that are associated with large businesses (Aladwani, Prashant 2001), the web site is separated into different sectors and by doing so install confidence in the user. Computer Clearances website does not give the appearance of a professional design and gives only a few ways the user can interact with the website, the colours the website uses are cheap and cheerful this making the screen look cluttered when in fact there is little information. The website is separated into different sectors but is difficult to find. 4.3.2. Marketing Mix The products sold by EuroPC show the cost of buying from a bricks and mortar store along with the discount offered, there is also promotional codes that offer a further discount that can be found on the internet, the product stock is always changing indicating a good turnover. Delivery can be set up to suit user’s requirements and a delivery window can be agreed. Anyone can become an affiliate or a reseller and earn money through traffic driven to EuroPC that end in a sale. EuroPC also have a testimonial page with reviews from educational, government, well known businesses and individuals. EuroPC has a shop on Amazon and also on EBay. The products sold by Computer Clearances are older models and are at the lower end of the refurbishment value chain; the delivery is through a 3rd party and is subject to the 3rd parties’ delivery, terms and conditions. Computer Clearances stock would not be found on high street shops, there are also promotional codes that offer a further discount when the user spends over  £500 with Computer Clearances, the average cost of a product being approximately  £150. 4.4. Performance Both website suffer with load bandwidth   capabilities the average speed of a page loading is 1.5 seconds, this may deter some customers with lower slower bandwidth, slower websites are also punished by search engines giving them a lower ranking. Conclusions and Recommendations 5.1. Competitors Both Computer Clearances and Black Barn Computers sell older models of refurbished computers, there are a few other competitors, EuroPC at present are the number 1 seller of refurbished computer, this is mainly achieved by a superior brand image and the ability to deliver in both quality and quantity on time. The refurbished computer market is already changing with large companies’ such as PCWorld starting to sell refurbished computers, although this service is not yet advertised a user might visit other websites to enquire. EuroPC need to be aware of these types of threats especially if it threatens their acquisition chain. 5.2. Value Analysis The value of value Chain Company is the interrelationships between the suppliers and procurement of products and the ability to market and sell, provide additional services and support, distribute to the end user and maintain a profit margin and to perform better than the competitors. 5.3. Web Experience The experience a user gets when they visit websites is very important to maintain and install trust especially when much larger companies are trying to expand into the same market and supply similar products at a cheaper or similar price. The website experience of EuroPC whilst very positive could achieve more mainly in the information of products. EuroPC cater for users with some technical knowledge but none for people without any knowledge without contacting EuroPC direct, the design of a computer aptitude questionnaire to help people decide what computers are recommended and further narrow the choice would further enhance user’s interaction this would further add trust as it could only recommend computers that match a user’s skill. The terms and Conditions on EuroPC do not meet the office of Fair trading regulations for distance selling. (Distance selling regulations 2000). 5.4. Future expectations   EuroPC could use the internet to better advantage by advertising on such places as you tube to compliment advertising on other social media sites. Getting advertising on university and further education campus could greatly increase awareness of EuroPC, EuroPC could engage with universities and further educational institutes for the design of an advert, EuroPC also need re-evaluate their S.W.O.T analysis and find other methods of identifying and producing value such as offering to upgrade existing products. EuroPC need to run a positive campaign to tell users about a green recycling and promote their computer exchange scheme. The EuroPC name is not widely known or recognised; until they run brand awareness they are reliant on existing custom, without getting brand awareness established EuroPC run the risk of slipping into obscurity.
